Our Easter Flavors

Guess what we're doing right now?
Baking!
Yup, baking. We made delicious vanilla buttermilk cupcakes that we used for Rockin' Raspberry for our base. They're going to be split up into two different flavors:

Key Lime Pie
Peeps Marshmallow Supreme

And if I'm right (aren't I always?) we're also going to have Chocolate Espresso Surprise using our leftover chocolate ones baked by me and me alone! Anyone coming to our house for Easter is in luck :)

Cupcake Idol: Who Will Win?

We are in love with this pic. Ky drew it on the computer's painting application. Don't forget to vote so your fave stays in the competition!

Rockin' Raspberry with an empty stand... which won't be empty for long! This round of Cupcake Idol ends in three days. Keep voting!

And Bake We Did...

Do these look yummy or what? But one little detail... I made them. Me. Kyra. Without Mom.

Mom was stressed over taxes, so I wanted to make some chocolate cupcakes for her. I used the recipe we already had- the one we've used twice before. The hardest parts were the sifting (we NEED a better sifter) and waiting for the eggs to become room temp. (By the way, my dad was warming them up for me by holding them. Then he put them in his pockets so he could use his hands. Then he bent over. One egg cracked. His pants are now in the wash.) They turned out GREAT!

Mmm, they really do look yummy! I still can't believe I made cupcakes.

Later, we both made some frosting for the cupcakes. This is caramel for the sea salt caramel buttercream.

Isn't it beautiful? Ha ha. This cupcake was frosted by me- I admit it. There wasn't enough frosting left in the bag, so it came out funny. The caramel drizzle just didn't work out.

A chocolate sea salt caramel Peeps cupcake. Frosting with our new grass tip! I just had a vision, okay? I couldn't wait until the actual Peeps ones. The Peeps ones will look a bit different cuz the decor will be a bit different and they won't be chocolate :(

A NICE caramel sea salt cupcake. Actually, the picture was better on the ugly one....

We had leftover strawberry buttercream from these cupcakes, so we tried our hands at a chocolate-covered strawberry cupcake, complete with a ganache-dipped berry.

Well, that's it for now. We'll see you next Sunday for the debut of the Peeps cakes!

What do you get when you cross cupcakes with lollipops?

First you get this.

Then you get this.

And with a little more experimenting, you get this. Yes, my friends... these are cake pops.

These particular cake pops are from the coffee store chain, Starbucks. The flavors are Tiramisu, Birthday Cake, and Rocky Road. Last night, K+K+J+J had the pleasure of trying the Tiramisu cake pops. We were satisfied, but not taken over the top with amazing flavor. Just satisfied.

Anyhow, we think the idea is cute, but we might stick to cupcakes. However, if you want to try your hand at cake pops, check out bakerella.com for some recipes and some of the cutest decorating ideas in this universe... for cupcakes, too!

Cupcake on!

Oh please let us bake now.

I love shopping trips. With the combination of Michael's and JoAnn's, we were able to get this sweet stuff. Yup. Tons of liners, adorable cupcake boxes, Peeps (Easter's here), and a decorating tip you can use to make frosting that looks like grass. I am in love.

Hard to see (stupid, stupid camera. We'll get a new one soon, promise.), but it's polka dot liners, black+white vine liners, Peeps, and our new decorating tip.

Don't you just love the cupcake boxes? And the pink liners? And the Easter liners? And the polka dot liners? And the decorating tip? And the Peeps? And that, my friends, is why we here at Double K are itching to bake some more cupcakes.

A Taste Of Summer

What do you get when you cross lemons, strawberries, and Double K?
Strawberry Lemonade Cupcakes!

Zesting. Is that a verb?

You want it. You know you do. Fresh strawberry buttercream.

Didn't they come out GORGEOUS? They look better in real life. Stupid camera.

MMMMMM.......

Awwwww.... now quit the cuteness and bake some more already! (Says J+J.)

And they taste even better than they look. Jordan calls them "refreshing and moist." Recipe is right here. We made some slight changes, like only half the juice in the frosting and more juice in the cake. They were awesometasticallyumdiddlyumptiousfully delicious. Now all we need is some warm weather to go with them.

I meant what I said.

Cupcake Idol, upon further consideration, shall become a real thing. Not a TV thing. A blog thing.

A CUPCAKE'S JOURNEY:

Round 1- Four cupcakes are put in a voting poll. The winner of that (the Cupcake Competitor) goes on to Round 2.

Round 2- Once we have four Cupcake Competitors, they are put in a poll together. The winner (the Cupcake Contender) goes on to Round 3.

Round 3- Once there are four Cupcake Contenders, they are put in a poll together. The winner (the Cupcake Champion) goes to Round 4.

Round 4- Once we have four Cupcake Champions, they are put in a poll together. The winner is the Cupcake Idol!

Who are you holding out for? It could change as more flavors come to the competition!

Fondant: A Living Nightmare

Maybe it's exaggerating, maybe it was because it was our first time with fondant, but now we know WHY they make pre-tinted. It's impossible to get a dark red without taking hours to do so. Stick to light colors or buy the already colored stuff!

Almost Cupcakes

He has a role in Almost, Maine; he can't feel pain, please welcome... JORDAN AS STEVE!

Aw, so cute! Oh, yeah, so are Kyra and Jordan.

A really low-flying bird's eye view of our cupcakes.

Above: the reason why we stayed up until 12:00 AM last night. Yes, yes, we SHOULD get to bed. I think we'll be dreaming of cupcakes and floating fondant hearts. Actually, the fondant part could very well be a nightmare. More on that tomorrow.

Hugs and cupcakes,

Mmm. Raspberry filling. Mmm.

Kyra's take on the s'mores cupcake. It's a campfire with a marshmallow roasting over it.

Kim's take on the s'mores cake. We ended up using this one because it looked classy and was less complicated than Ky's.

A finished batch of Dirt Cupcakes. I'm hungry...

Hunger pains are kicking in...

Well, for some reason Blogger puts the pictures in the wrong order. I don't know why. Oh well. Hope we can bake again soon!
