Cupcake Wars

I'm guessing you've all heard of Cupcake Wars, right? Well, if you haven't, it's a show on Food Network that puts cupcake bakers to the test by having them bake cupcakes that are reviewed by the judges. The contestants get eliminated one by one. The last baker standing is the winner.

FIRST:
The new season premieres tonight at 8 on Food Network. Don't be late!

SECOND:

Cupcake Wars was mostly my inspiration for this cupcake business. My mom and I started watching it a lot, and that's how I got into cupcakes. Yay Cupcake Wars! Planning on watching the new season premiere tonight!

We're drawing a bigger crowd!

Today two little bunnies showed up in our yard! Potential customers?

Please let there be crumbs in the grass...

Carrot cake? Clover cake? They're possibilities... but for our human audience, there's always good old chocolate.

Chocolate Stout Cupcakes

Yesterday we made chocolate stout cupcakes for Dad (John)'s birthday.

They turned out GREAT! The cupcakes had nice little domes on them.

The cupcakes had chocolate ganache and white buttercream under John/Dad's request.

Billy was the first one to try them.

He licked off all of the frosting and then bit into it. He said that they were... and I quote... "yummy". I can't believe we impressed this top-notch food critic!

We couldn't fit enough candles on the cake to make Dad's age, so we just put one. (Sorry, Dad! You couldn't really put 10 either without setting the whole cupcake on fire!)

Time for Key Lime!

This time, we tried a sour cream cake.

They turned out way too sweet, but the tart lime curd made it work.

What is this, a cupcake horror movie? ;)
Kill the cupcake, why don't you.

This was our first time using this frosting tip- we loved it!

The finished product.

(By the way, we got our new camera. Like it?)

Today's question: What cupcake flavor should we bake next? Comment below!

A BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!

Actually, two. First, I honestly hope you've noticed that our wallpaper has changed. Second... WE'RE GETTING A NEW CAMERA!!!

At this point, you might be thinking: 'Sound the trumpets. Whoop-dee-doo.' in that sarcastic tone we know you have somewhere in you. But it's a big deal for us. Plus, you'll get to see what our cupcakes look like without the added 'speeding in my car while taking this pic' look. Can't wait!

K (and also K)

Today's Headline: RECITAL CROWD WOWED BY DOUBLE K!

The ever popular Chocolate Espresso looking elegant on the red carpet... er, tablecloth.

Rockin' Raspberry goes incognito as the fancy Raspberry Ritardando at my mom's students' piano recital.

The 'key' to happiness is this delicious new flavor.

The biggest hit of the evening was Rhapsody in Red- red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. We were surprised that it stole the show. 'Note' the black fondant decorations.

This was our first real catering job... oh, who cares that we didn't get paid?! We got paid in compliments... man, I'm cheesy. We knew it went well when people were talking more about the cupcakes than the performances... not that they weren't amazing. A typical conversation went like this:

RECITAL ATTENDEE: Hi, Kyra! Who made these cupcakes? They're delicious!
ME: My mom and I made them.
RECITAL ATTENDEE: Are they available for purchase?
MY MIND: YES! YES, THEY ARE!!! BUY SOME!!!! ORDER!!! PLEASE!!!
ME: Yup. We have a Facebook page where you can order them.
RECITAL ATTENDEE: I just might have to. They were amazing! You should be on Cupcake Wars.
ME: Thank you! (starts to walk away)
RECITAL ATTENDEE: Oh, and you did great at the recital too.
ME: Thanks!

Our CRAZY Cupcake Adventure

You might remember my cousin Billy from the earlier post. Well, last Thursday was his birthday and last Saturday was his Toy Story birthday party! Of course, Double K provided dessert-Billy's request being chocolate cupcakes with blue frosting.

And we delivered.

The character decorations were made of fondant. I made most of the characters. Mom made Woody's bandana, the aliens, the three, and Rex the dinosaur. She thinks he looks weird. Uncle Jeff made the star.

See, Rex looks awesome! Now take a close look at Mr. Potato Head's expression. Priceless!

All of the cupcakes, plated.

We finally presented the cupcakes to Billy.

"What character is that?"

"It's Woody!" Aww.

"I eat Woody's face!" -Billy

Billy's brother Pablo was there too. He enjoyed some chocolate cupcake- note the tiny crumbs.

Is this a sign that we make yummy buttercream?

No one sees me eating Mr. Potato Head's face, right?

Bus-ted.

High-five!
